Familia27
Screen-print, Edition of 10
297 × 420 mm
Martin Leedham. Born 1973. UK. Based in Derbyshire.
Familia27 is part of a series created in response to the discovery of a commercial aircraft cockpit abandoned at the side of the road in El Mirage, Mojave Desert, Southern California, on 27th December 2024.
“After photographing the fuselage in empty desert for less than five minutes, a car arrived full of men who did not speak to me but were clearly wishing me to leave. Upon later closer inspection of my images, I realised that most of the graffiti tags on the cockpit belonged to local Mexican street gangs. My printmaking has used scrap civil aircraft fuselage as subject matter and printing material for several years and this set of prints is a slight departure in combining my photography with more abstract aviation work and love of graffiti and street art.” - Martin Leedham
